Configuration details for the ROG Hero VIII with a Ryzen 3rd Gen processor
Hello, I recently installed a new system and moved from Intel to Ryzen 3900X. I have some Ballistics RAM capable of up to 4000MHz. With limited time, I opted for a simple fix and set the DOCP to 4000MHz. Yet, I often read online suggesting 3600MHz or 1800MHz for the FCLK setting can improve stability and possibly boost frame rates. Should I lower my RAM to 3600MHz for better performance, or keep it at 4000MHz without changing anything else? Is DOCP at 4000MHz the optimal choice right now, or is it just a recommended value that might cost me frames? I’m curious to see what happens when I try both settings. In the meantime, I’d like to explore overclocking techniques for RAM timings, but my schedule is tight. My main goal is smooth 4K to 1440p gaming, whether streaming or playing through my RTX 3090, so I want to ensure I’m not limiting performance unnecessarily. Thanks for any advice!
This video will assist you in choosing the best approach for adjusting RAM speeds.
I reviewed the content and considered the options. Setting DOCP to 4000MHz could work, but it might not align with optimal 1:1 scaling. Adjusting to 3600MHz or fine-tuning parameters could yield better results with less effort. Trusting the 4000MHz profile might not be ideal.
Adjusted DOCP to 3800MHz and FCLK to 1900MHz, everything works fine. No stress tests done yet, but it seems stable so far? *thinking*
Great! You're still able to boot with 1900MHz FLCK, but overclocking seems problematic. The launch week silicon isn't working well for you.
Ugh, the silicon lottery is a mess! If it stays this way, I’ll probably go overclocking the CPU next. I had a solid silicon lottery on my old 8700K running at around 4.9GHz, but I’m pretty sure I won’t push past 4.2GHz now.
