Malware has become incredibly sophisticated and can survive even after a fresh Windows setup. If you received a compressed file that required unzipping or extraction, it might hide advanced threats. Such malware can access your system without any two-factor authentication and behaves like a virtual version of your own machine, mimicking your cookies, permissions, and other settings. I strongly suggest using a reputable paid antivirus solution. Adjust your system permissions carefully—type in "permissions /user account control" to manage access. Always stay alert and notify you of any changes to your computer. I've encountered malware that transforms Malwarebytes into a malicious bot targeting your HKEY registry, corrupting drivers and damaging critical components like the GPU, CPU, BIOS, and storage. It operates with minimal storage requirements. Stay vigilant.
I don't believe I've installed anything like that; the only thing that comes to mind is Cheat Engine. I aimed to quickly boost a single-player game, but the app installation froze the file explorer; perhaps that was the issue. I’m not sure I’ve downloaded anything extremely risky either. Also, while searching online and checking different Linux distros, I landed on a site that seems to download ISO files. I think it’s one of those that use your PC for crypto mining, since my CPU temperature jumped to 92°C the moment I opened it and dropped when I closed the browser, so definitely about malware!
