I'm preparing for a new PC build and am eager for the Ryzen 5900X and Ampere GPUs to arrive. I've already gathered most components, focusing on RAM as my main concern. I have two 32GB Trident Z RGB modules at 4000MHz, planning to future-proof by using high clock speeds (the infinity clock is expected to rise to 2000). While the RGB models aren't the latest Neo series, they function well and likely won't cause major issues beyond marketing differences. I'm seeing some reports about challenges in achieving a 1:1 frequency with these parts, so I'm wondering if it's better to wait for a BIOS update or try running the RAM at a lower speed temporarily. Alternatively, I could consider swapping them for cheaper Neo 3600MHz DIMMs. My motherboard is an ASRock X570 Taichi.
I received them from NewEgg, which means the return rules are a bit tricky, but they seem to allow returns anytime before January 31 under the holiday policy.
I believe I've chosen to bring back the 4000 RGB RAM and either hold out for the updated Neo RAM designed for Zen 3, or opt for a set of Neo 32GB F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC. I considered the F4-3600C16D-32GTZN for boosting performance but remain uncertain about diving into overclocking. Upgrading to four sticks for 64GB seems more feasible than attempting it, especially since a 64GB configuration is priced similarly to what I already have. For content creation, I think 32GB is sufficient now and I can upgrade later if needed. Initially, the 64GB kit was intended to allow future expansion, but once I surpass that, I plan to move to DDR5.
I'll secure it if available; otherwise, I'll monitor for the update featuring Samsung B-dies with reduced latency.
I understand, I was quite determined about them too. My previous setup used G.Skill and it complements my MoBo nicely. I'm holding out for the 5900X to be back in stock and for an Ampere GPU to arrive before making any decisions.
I run the F4-4266C19D-16GTZSW on my Intel machine. It performs well. Clock speed is around 4133MHz with a range of 14-16-16 GHz during 3D benchmarking.
