Hey everyone, I just swapped out the RAM in my PC after it was acting up. At first I didn’t know the exact slot numbers, but I’ll use (1 -> 4) as a reference. My setup includes:

- Motherboard: ROG STRIX Z690-G GAMING WIFI
- Processor: Intel Core i7 12700K
- Storage: Two 2TB Samsung SSDs
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
- RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB (Intel XMP, 64GB)
- Memory type: 6400 CL32-39-39-102 1.40V Dual Channel

I tried using two sticks, one in slot 2 and the other in slot 4. Both worked fine individually. When I switched to the new RAM in both slots at once, an orange light appeared and I saw an error screen saying it had safe booted. From there, I could enter BIOS and try to boot Windows normally. I’ve also experimented with different XMP profiles, but none helped.

Any suggestions or alternative troubleshooting steps would be really appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Sure, could you clarify what exactly is happening? It sounds like you're trying to understand why a system isn't booting into Windows despite certain hardware connections.

Choose either Slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4. Does the system complete P.O.S.T. and start the OS correctly if XMP is turned off? Which BIOS version are you running? If it's significantly outdated, consider updating—it usually brings better memory stability and support. DDR5 has been challenging for both Intel and AMD recently, reflecting ongoing development efforts.

@ItsDestini @-rascal- You're welcome for getting back—apologies, I was really caught up with work and didn’t have time to check this out. It’s been a while, so I probably missed the DDR5 problems and the BIOS upgrade. Once I updated to the newest BIOS, everything seems to be working properly. Thanks again for your help!
