Computer shuts down unexpectedly, need assistance
Hello everyone,
I've been dealing with this problem for some time and it's really been quite annoying. While playing League of Legends, my computer would suddenly restart without any warning. The screen would stay on, and it just restarted again. It mostly happens during a single session, but sometimes it can occur more often. It also seems to happen when I watch Netflix occasionally, though not as frequently as with other platforms like YouTube. When I open many tabs and multitask, the system crashes too. This issue is most consistent while playing League of Legends, although there are times when it doesn't happen at all for a few sessions before becoming more regular.
Another strange occurrence is that after shutting down my computer, the RGB on the fans remains active—only the fans themselves stay lit, not other components. I need to completely turn off my PSU, and after about five seconds the RGB turns off. I have a Ryzen 5 5600G with an Aorus B550M Pro-P motherboard and 16GB of RAM. I'm considering upgrading to a GPU now that prices are reasonable, but without fully understanding what's causing the problem I'm stuck. I haven't committed to rebuilding everything since I don't play games often. I've tested the RAM, CPU, and APU, but the only crash I experienced was during the Heaven benchmark.
What I've tried so far:
- Brought it to a repair shop where they attempted to reformat Windows and reset everything to factory settings.
- Asked someone to inspect it, who suspected a PSU problem, so I replaced the power supply with a 750W Gold model.
-BIO updates
-Updated drivers

Summary of Issues and Troubleshooting
Primary Problems
Random System Shutdowns
Occur mainly when under heavy use (gaming, Netflix, League of Legends, Heaven benchmark).
System sometimes starts but shows no display, requiring manual PSU shutdown.
Event ID 41 in Event Viewer (kernel power failure).
Screen issues: tearing, freezing, and buzzing sounds before crashes.
RGB Problems
Motherboard RGB fails to sync or respond to color changes.
Fan RGB stays lit after shutdown and only turns off when PSU is manually turned off.
Troubleshooting Steps Taken
Power Supply (PSU)
- Replaced the PSU.
Result: Did not fix random shutdowns.
Memory (RAM)
- Ran MemTest86; no errors detected.
Result: RAM is unlikely to be the cause.
CPU and GPU
- Ran Cinebench (CPU stress test) without crashes.
- Ran Heaven benchmark (GPU stress test), which caused shutdowns.
Result: GPU or GPU-related power delivery might be the issue.
RGB and Power Settings
Observed issues:
- RGB on motherboard doesn't sync properly.
- RGB Fusion software appears unreliable.
- Fans' RGB stays on after shutdown unless PSU is off.
Result: Suggests possible power management or motherboard hardware problems.
Stress Testing
GPU: Fails during stress tests (e.g., Heaven benchmark), indicating GPU or power delivery problems.
CPU: Stable under Cinebench, no direct CPU faults detected.
Result: Shutdowns are more likely related to GPU workloads.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.
You might want to include all parts that you've used to troubleshoot your system.
