Haven't used Windows in a while, but recently it has started to shutdown after the lid is closed for a while. I have checked power management settings and it's all set to hibernate. Nothing to me indicates it should be shutting down after a while. Any suggestions for other places and settings to check?
Hibernate refers to stopping the application. Restarting it usually restores all programs. It combines stopping and pausing functionality. You have the option to put it to sleep if needed.
Your system appears to be in hibernation mode. By default, it powers down and resumes operation in a partial state after a long idle period. To disable this behavior, go to the Power Options panel, select "Change advanced power settings," then choose "Sleep" or "Hibernate after." Set the option to "Never" by entering 0 in the corresponding field.
But does hibernate save the state to disk so you can pick up where you left off later? That’s what I thought I was missing. I’m okay with it saving, but for instance, if I leave my browser and PowerPoint open while closing the lid, next time I turn it on I get a fresh start—browser gone, PowerPoint gone, and everything runs from scratch. [Edit] I verified the setting is configured to hibernate after 35791394 minutes, which seems unusual. I’m not sure if that’s connected to the issue, but I’ve adjusted it to a more reasonable value.
