Computer freezes and reboots when playing
I’m experiencing frequent system freezes and reboots while gaming, occurring intermittently (sometimes 2 hours, sometimes 40 minutes). My computer specs are: CPU – i7-6700k, GPU – EVGA 1080 sc, Mobo – MSI H110M Gaming, PSU – Corsair HX850i Platinum, Ram – Corsair 2x8 Vengeance Pro 3000 MHz, Cooler – Corsair Hydro Series H100i RGB Plat 120mm. I initially suspected overheating and addressed it by upgrading my case for better airflow and reapplying thermal paste to the GPU with new thermal pads, reducing temperatures to around 72°C during gaming. However, the issue persists. I’ve also replaced the PSU and RAM, but problems continue. My drivers are updated, and I contacted Microsoft for assistance without success. Currently considering replacing my CPU, GPU, and motherboard as potential causes. The freezes only occur when gaming.

A fresh install is often recommended to resolve software issues. This process involves reinstalling the operating system and all applications onto a new hard drive or SSD. While this takes time, it’s a relatively simple solution if you have available storage space. If the problem persists after a fresh install, deleting the troublesome application may be an option. A full system reset can confirm whether the issue stems from software or hardware.
