Hello, I attempted to power on my PC today after it had been put to sleep the previous day. The components and lights activated, and the fans started running, but it still didn’t boot. After a brief pause, the VGA indicator on the motherboard turned on and remained lit.

I’m not sure if this matters, but when first powered up, the motherboard shows the CPU light for about three seconds, followed by a quick flash on the DRAM light, then the VGA light, and finally only the VGA stays illuminated.

I’ve already tried several fixes. I removed my GPU completely and reinserted it twice, replaced all my RAM, and even ran the GPU on my roommate’s computer, which worked perfectly and brought me to the home screen.

CPU: Ryzen 9 5900X
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080
RAM: 4x8 GB DDR4
PSU: 850 watts gold

What is the precise model of that "850 watts gold" power supply?
Have you attempted to fit the graphics card into one of the lower PCIe ports?
Have you experimented with another graphics card in your setup?

It’s functioning on the other PCIe slot too! Can you fix the first one? My GPU is still low in the case and I’m concerned about ventilation. I had to push some cables through the bottom holes to avoid hitting the fans.

If it functions in the alternative port then likely there is an issue with the board, it may be defective, or a bent CPU pin could be the cause. These are typically the main concerns when the primary slot fails. It might be useful to remove the CPU cooler and CPU, inspect for any bent pins, and if none are found, reach out to MSI for a replacement. Should there still be no bent pins, the graphics card should work in another port unless the board itself is faulty. Make sure the card was properly seated in the main slot and that all auxiliary power connections were fully connected at both ends.

And if that board is less than 3 years old then it should still be covered under warranty in the US or most countries. ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI and ASRock all offer three-year warranties on their boards, though this can vary depending on your location.
