Computer cannot restart
Hey, I’m dealing with a brand new PC that’s about five months old. Everything seemed fine initially, but suddenly it stopped restarting. Whenever I try to restart in Windows or after an update, the computer won’t shut down—it just turns black, and it keeps running. Only a hard shutdown can get it back. There are no other problems like overheating or performance issues; it just doesn’t restart at all.
I’ve tried several fixes: removing the CMOS battery, using jumpers, reinstalling Windows three times (on both 11 and 10), installing on two different SSDs, updating BIOS to the latest version, and sticking to default settings. The specs are as follows:
- GPU: Rx 6800
- CPU: Ryzen 5 7600
- Motherboard: MSI B650 PRO S Wifi
- RAM: Patriot Viper Venom 32gb, 6000MHz
- Power Supply: Gigabyte Aorus P750W
- SSD: xpg Gammix S11 Pro M.2 NVMe and some Samsung NVMe
Anyone have any advice?
Whenever I press the restart button in Windows or an update restarts the system, the computer fails to shut down properly. This may trigger a malfunctioning process that cannot terminate, leading to a black screen and requiring a forced shutdown. This issue might be contributing to additional file damage and complications.
Could this affect whether the computer boots into Safe Mode? Does it use Integrated Graphics for startup?
Also, consider powering off, disconnecting the device, and opening the case. Clear out any dust or debris. Check visually and physically that all connectors, cards, RAM, jumpers, and case connections are securely installed. If uncertain, carefully remove or reinsert components—leave the CPU undisturbed for now.
Use a bright flashlight to look for signs of damage: exposed wires, melting, cracks, discoloration, loose screws, or bent wires.
