I just completed upgrading my 6-year-old system (everything new except the case) and when powering it on, the PSU fan starts, spins half a rotation, then stops. No lights appear on the motherboard. What I've tried so far: installed QFlash Plush to update the BIOS, which worked perfectly—lights blinked normally. Re-seated the RAM (and removed one stick and tried again). Disconnected the GPU power to check for errors. Inspected all power cables on both the motherboard and PSU. Specs: i9 13900K, GeForce 4070Ti, Corsair 32GB DDR5 2x16GB, 6000MHz, Vengeance CL36, Seasonic Focus 850W Gold+, Gigabyte Z790. I verified the board pins before installing the CPU, ensuring everything was straight. One concern: the motherboard has two 12V connectors, but only one is plugged in (can't locate the second 4+4 pin cable...). According to my reading, that shouldn't be necessary, though I'm not sure. Need advice Smile*

Check the paper clip test for the PSU using the provided guide. https://www.silverstonetek.com/upload/do.../PSU-Paper Clip-EN.pdf If it stops right away after testing, remove all connections and retry. If it still powers down, the PSU is faulty. When the fan begins spinning once everything is unplugged, a short circuit likely exists—reinsert components gradually to locate the issue. If it lights up during the initial test with all plugged in, the motherboard is probably dead.

I'll attempt it again once I'm back on track. I previously used this PSU in another setup and it functioned properly, so I think it's unlikely to be faulty—just a possible short circuit. Fingers crossed it works instead of the motherboard failing.

If the PSU works well, remove the GPU completely and test with an integrated graphics card.

I performed the motherboard paperclip test and the power supply started. Then I connected one plug at a time until I noticed my mistake... I was using a Molex cable from the previous PSU. Luckily, the PSU chose to shut down rather than fail, so I swapped out the cable and everything is now functioning properly. Thanks to everyone!
