I've got an extremely old PC and just installed Windows 10 [64-bit]. Everything seemed normal at first, but after a few days the disk usage jumped to 100% even with light tasks like browsing or listening to music. I've checked countless articles and videos, but nothing seems to solve this issue. My drive is a WD Green 1TB HDD that's only five months old. Unfortunately, my monitor stopped working a few days ago. Other details: i3 2100 2GB, 1333MHz RAM, Intel DH61WW GPU (not applicable). I'd really appreciate your guidance. Thank you.

If I were you, I wouldn’t stress about it. Computers tend to jump into high usage quickly to finish tasks fast. If they didn’t, things would take longer to load. It all comes down to speed—do things open promptly? If not, right-click the disk and defragment it. If that fails, back up your data and wipe the drive for a fresh Windows setup.

The situation changes often; typically the application I start runs, but occasionally "svchost" appears as well.

It gets really sluggish and the program freezes. I attempted a defragmentation session for about 7 to 8 hours, but it almost halted at around 33% and I ended up stopping it. My hard drive has limited space, so I think formatting it and reinstalling Windows would be the best option. (Or should I go with Windows 8.1?) P.S. : Nice DP!! ? Jayz would be shocked if he saw this...

In fact, I turned off Windows Defender Real-time Protection a while back. I'm relying on a third-party antivirus now.
