Compatibility with quad channel memory for Ryzen 7 3800X
I was thinking about enhancing my PC's memory and exploring higher capacities, including options like quad channel. I'm not sure if the AMD Ryzen 7 3800X can handle quad channel memory. Could you share any details about this? For your reference, I have an ASUS Prime X570-Pro motherboard with an AM4 socket.
Memory rank and memory channel refer to distinct concepts. A 3800x is a dual-channel CPU, meaning it supports only two channels of RAM. However, adding four sticks to your board won’t increase the channel count beyond two, though you’ll use all four sticks. Be aware that you might need to lower the frequency if your CPU struggles with higher memory ranks at that speed. You can still use a quad-channel RAM kit on a 4-slot dual-channel board, but it will operate at dual-channel speeds and retain full capacity.
