Hello everyone, I've begun a fresh build and selected most of my new components. But I'm still uncertain about something. I plan to install three 140mm front fans and two 14mm top fans on my case, making a total of six fans. Most motherboards only provide three fan connectors (excluding the CPU and pump fan ports). Even after looking into some builds, people have installed up to six fans on boards that claim support for just three. My question is whether this setup is possible or if I need to find a motherboard that explicitly lists six fan connectors. The fans I'm considering are the Noctua A14s and the ASUS TUF Gaming B550 Plus, which offers all the features I need. However, the website specifies only three fan connectors. What should I do?

Purchase fan hubs or splitter cables to link several fans via a single header. Monitor the MBD maximum current for the headers (typically 1-2A).

You may link several fans through one header as long as it matches the fan’s current rating—check the label or calculate by dividing watts by 12. Keep the current under 1A; for instance, three fans at 0.25A each are safe, but four would be pushing limits. Consider using fan splitters or adapter cables to connect multiple fans to a single header. There are also adapters that transform SATA or Molex power into multiple fan headers, and you can route just the sensor and PWM wires directly to the motherboard for cleaner power delivery.

This could seem a bit basic, but with hubs or splitters you should still manage the fans normally. Since they're 4-pin PMW fans, you can adjust their speed as needed—lower RPM for quieter operation and increase only when temperatures rise.

Yes, you'll still have control over your NF-A14 fans. For the best setup with your chosen MB, I'd suggest this option.
