I’m checking out some X58 motherboards and found a good offer on the Foxconn X58 Flaming Blade GTI. I understand X58 is no longer in production, the CPUs are extremely power-hungry, and 2021 isn’t a great time for them. I’m leaning toward a Ryzen setup but think it could be an interesting project. The main question is whether the board vendor supported LGA 1366 Xeon chips like the X5690. Since Foxconn no longer makes boards, I can’t just check compatibility on the QVL. Do you know if the X5690 works with that setup? Also, if it does, would running a Vega 64 at 1600MHz be too much of a bottleneck?

You're in good news—the x5690 is a Westmere CPU and works well with the system. It's considered the strongest CPU available on that platform. On eBay, prices are currently around $75.

Based on my search, i7 and i7 Extreme Bloomfield models don’t mention xenon in their specifications.

I think I should dig deeper to get the details right before deciding. In the worst scenario, I might settle for a 980x, which runs a bit slower and costs a little extra, but it shouldn’t make a big difference overall.
