I have an old i5 2500k on hand and I'm checking if it functions. I'm considering purchasing an affordable OEM motherboard from eBay to test compatibility. The Optiplex model I'm looking at is 1155, but its CPU compatibility list doesn't include any i5 chipsets below the 3000 series. Could this be a chipset limitation or just something it was designed for at the time? If it doesn't work, anyone recommend a budget-friendly OEM board that would fit? Thanks ahead.

To get the most out of that CPU, I recommend purchasing a used motherboard from eBay (z77) so you can optimize its performance.

I'm not sure if it will function; I prefer not to spend 70 dollars on a motherboard just in case the CPU isn't working.
