Hey there, I attempted to upgrade the RAM in my Alienware 15R2 using the BIOS 1.7.0 from a preinstalled Skhynix module to a Kingston Hyper X Impact 32GB with 2666MHz. Now I’m stuck and can’t even see the BIOS screen. Just four beeps, then nothing. I remember the factory RAM is 2133, but I’m not sure it will still work properly. The timings aren’t unusually low, but I’ve already cleared the CMOS, performed a hard reset without power, and changed the CLRP1 pins on the motherboard. I have no idea where to begin or what steps to take next. Also, I don’t even know which type of RAM would fit in my laptop if it doesn’t work at all. If anyone has experience with this problem or any suggestions, that would be really helpful.

Unlikely to be included in the QVL for that board. Dell locking upgrades aren’t new. The SPD chip in memory and the motherboard likely require a specific handshake, making them the sole source for upgrade modules at a significant cost. If the RAM’s SPD chip lacks the proper handshake, the system won’t boot.

You're essentially stuck with an upgrade, except you can get more RAM from Dell.
