Compatibility of memory for Dell Latitude e6420
Hi there, I own a Dell Latitude e6420 with an i7 2720Q processor, 2*4GB DDR3 RAM, 240GB SSD, and other specs. It’s not the newest model, but it handles my needs well. The main issue is the limited RAM—would switching one of the 4GB modules to an 8GB one work? Should I upgrade to a faster 1333MHz 8GB stick or can I use a 1600MHz one instead? If you have any questions about the laptop, I’ll do my best to help. Thanks ahead for your support!
You can use a single 4GB stick and an 8GB stick, it should function but might not be perfect for dual-channel setups depending on the bandwidth support (assuming the chipset can handle it). You can also opt for RAM that matches the speed, though actual performance will be limited by the slower component—currently around 1333 Mbps. The best setup would be two 8GB sticks at the same speed, but your request is acceptable, though not optimal for top performance.
