I've been considering the 5800X3D for a while now and it's just landed on a sale. The £170 discount makes it a solid offer I won't pass up. The main concerns are RAM capacity and storage options for my X470 motherboard. I'm leaning toward this RAM kit because it's fast and has been confirmed to work well with Zen+ CPUs. I think an OS update might be necessary. On the board details, it mentions support for Zen 3 architecture with memory up to 3600MHz, but it doesn't specify the exact type or brand. Should I go ahead and purchase a kit rated for 3600MHz and see how it performs? In case it doesn't meet expectations, it should still function similarly to the original 32GB 3200MHz upgrade I planned. Regarding the "OC" setting, it seems to refer to XMP profiles rather than manual adjustments. For storage, I plan to use the last M.2 slot on the back with a 3.0 SSD. It doesn't mention 3rd generation Ryzen support, so I should assume everything is compatible unless noted otherwise. I might have missed updating my options list. The M.2 port remains open if other connections are correctly configured. If you have any better suggestions for compatible RAM kits, let me know.

This Corsair package looks a good match for your needs. It's optimized for Ryzen, works with 400-series boards, and appears capable based on specs. Decide if you want to proceed.

Y are there so many sales on right now? Another kit for less that seems to offer everything I need ( plus AWD freezes on checkout so seems like a no go) .

Absolutely, opt for any top brands. Corsair might struggle with older models, whereas Kingston appears reliable. Have you looked through the compatibility guide?

The ROG site is currently unavailable, making it hard to verify their updates. Other platforms show everything normal. Buying a CL18 memory seems reasonable; the 5800X3D likely didn’t require high-speed RAM for significant performance. There’s a 14-day return window if it doesn’t function properly. I chose Kingston because of the price difference—£20 saved—and previous reports suggest they’re more reliable than Corsair, which had some problems.

It happened sooner than expected. Now I need to download the newest motherboard BIOS and set up all the required components. This is the first time I've updated a BIOS, so it might seem complicated.

It's simple. Install the newest BIOS file and then, once inside BIOS, it should guide you through the process. ROG STRIX X470-I GAMING | ROG Strix | Gaming Motherboards | ROG - Republic of Gamers | ROG Global (asus.com)

Gucci, everything checks out. Completed several hours of testing and everything ran perfectly. It seems there was a misunderstanding about performance; Zen 3 is functioning smoothly with RAM boosted to 3600MHz. By the way, updating the motherboard BIOS was quite challenging. It only worked after discovering a similar problem online and finding a solution. There were unclear requirements that weren't documented anywhere. Disappointing forums, I can't engage with that person or edit the thread to confirm it's still operational in 2022 with a newer BIOS. Still need to rework the fan curve. The new BIOS erased all previous settings, which isn't too bad since I'd have to create a fresh curve for a different CPU. Overall, impressive work. Just need a fresh GPU and a new 4K display. That would secure my setup for years to come. Kingston RAM was a solid choice, though the CL18 rating is a bit disappointing. The color consistency is off too... but it's good in its own way.
