They're almost the same. You'll lose one PCIe slot that you won't need with the mortar, and a few fewer fan headers and SATA ports that you likely never use. The tomahawk offers slightly better VRM, but it's probably not noticeable—both are decent. The mortar provides more I/O and an additional M.2 port. I usually suggest the mortar because it's more affordable and lets you build a smaller system without losing much functionality.
You're not giving up anything, just like I did when I picked it.
It seems the display port is built into the mortar, not just the GPU.
