Comparison of G.Skill Neo with non-Neo DDR5 RAM
Comparison of G.Skill Neo with non-Neo DDR5 RAM
I placed an order for a 2x16GB DDR5 kit and it arrived today. However, the package contained an F5-6000J3636F16Gx2-RM5RW instead of the one I ordered (F5-6000J3636F16Gx2-RM5NRW). The distinction lies in whether the model number includes 'N' for Neo at the end. They seem to have the same specifications, are both listed for the motherboard and CPU combo, and support dual XMP/EXPO. I’m more interested in performance and compatibility than in the differences. Do you know what the variation is?
Neo's are designed specifically for AMD systems. The Non-Neo's are intended for Intel systems. This distinction means the integrated circuits will vary between the two types of platforms, which is what makes a kit suitable for one over the other. If an Intel-based kit is used on your AMD platform, the performance gap could be almost insignificant. Some builds here show that Intel RAM kits on AMD platforms sometimes work or fail. With the arrival of DDR5, it has been recommended to follow the QVL guidelines.
The non-Neo is listed in the QVL for the AMD motherboard that hasn't been shipped yet. Both models support dual XMP/EXPO, and their specifications match those on the G.Skill website.
The RM5RW on the QVL is F5-6000J36. 44
F16Gx2-RM5RW. I forgot that earlier. But no worries about the two types I referenced being both XMP/EXPO.
