Comparison of DDR's and refresh rates
Hello,
I'm considering a new laptop and would like to understand the impact of a 60Hz versus a 90Hz refresh rate in real life. For example, the Asus Zenbook 13 S OLED with 60Hz refreshing versus the Zenbook OLED 14 with 90Hz—does that mean it updates the image 90 times each second? I’ve noticed this mainly when playing games, but how noticeable is the difference when simply opening windows or browsing the web? Other factors like internet speed and offline tasks also matter. Would you really feel a difference in speed and smoothness during use?
I also want to know about the difference between DDDR-5 and DDDR-4. The 13 OLED model has DDDR-5, while the 14 OLED has DDDR-4. Is this a significant distinction? Does the S13 OLED offer better memory compared to the 14 OLED? Also, does DDDR-5 involve a new motherboard design for memory capacity? The 60Hz model still uses DDDR-5, but the 90Hz one?
Regarding screen size and heat, I’ve seen some complaints on YouTube about the 13S getting hot and making loud fan noise. It seems lighter and smaller than the 14 OLED. CPU-wise, I’ve spotted the S13 with an AMD Ryzen 7, but not the 60Hz version in Thailand stores—maybe it’s coming soon.
Performance differences between 5 and 7 generations are clear: the 7 offers more power, while the 5 is still decent. The 14 OLED supports both Intel and AMD chips, with Intel using Iris Xe and AMD using Radeon. I’m leaning toward the 14 OLED for its screen size, refresh rate, and lack of fan complaints.
But if the 60Hz rate doesn’t make a big difference and DDDR-5 is a solid choice, then the S13 might be better. Experience with these models suggests focusing on screen quality, refresh rate, and thermal performance would help.
For more specific advice, I’d appreciate details about the 14-inch Intel or AMD laptops, especially those with 12th Gen processors and upgradable memory. Other options like the Acer Swift X or HP Pavilion 14 OLED also come to mind.
Thanks in advance for your help—I’m trying to make an informed choice.
Sorry, writing my own reply...
Pardon the extra D in DDR.
I might have missed the right search in hz or ddr on YouTube... but I found some useful answers to my questions.
I should have double-checked before posting... my mistake.
Still, getting more feedback is always helpful, and I’ll probably try again on something else.
If there’s no reply... (since I’m not a regular in the forum) I’m fine with that.
Bye
