Comparison of Aftermarket and OEM Laptop Chargers.
Comparison of Aftermarket and OEM Laptop Chargers.
Hello everyone.
I bought a Lenovo 15ALC6 laptop and a charger that fits the specifications: 20V, 3.25A, with a 4.0mm x 1.7mm plug.
I also got a second charger from eBay for around $10.
Lenovo-branded chargers typically cost about $30.
I’m wondering if a charger that doesn’t mention Lenovo will still work as long as it matches the voltage, current, plug shape and polarity. The one I received in my mailbox is almost the same but doesn’t have the brand name.
Thanks.
In theory, as long as the output remains the same voltage and the amperage is comparable or higher, it should function properly. I've seen reports suggesting that certain new laptops rely on DRM (or similar technologies), which might require using only the manufacturer's charger. There was a discussion about this a few weeks ago.
It appeared to be the situation with the example I mentioned earlier... can't locate it anymore in the mess, haha. I meant to talk about a Dell device. It wouldn't be unexpected.
