Comparison of 7800X3D and 14700K models
I should have mentioned the 1440p setting. From what I've learned, the difference between the chips isn't that noticeable at that resolution anymore.
This setup features demanding MT operations enabling the 14700K to deliver 280W (excessively), whereas the 7800X3D caps at 80W. During those workloads, the 14700K may reach roughly double its speed, but for efficiency focus you can cap its power around 90W and still outperform the 7800X3D in those scenarios, achieving improvements of 15% or more. Similar strategies apply to the 7900X and 7950X, offering even greater gains.
I’m trying to refine this situation. Currently I have a 10700k with a 2070 graphics card. My goal is to assemble a new PC using either a 7800x3d or an i7-14700k. I’ll be using a 4080 GPU. The main challenge is choosing the right CPU. I’m mostly focused on gaming, but I also need to run CAD software for my civil engineering studies. From what I’ve learned, the 7800x3d seems better for gaming while keeping power costs low. I’m okay with the CAD performance being similar or slightly better than my current setup. I haven’t found any comparisons between the 10700k and the 7800x3d. Both CPUs have 8 cores or 16 threads, but I’m unsure if that’s a fair performance match. If you have any advice, solid testing data, or alternative suggestions, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks!
Most of these specialists didn't address this, but I believe you addressed your own query. If performance isn't a major concern, go with gaming speed. Someone else might verify, but I think a 7800x3d could handle CAD just as quickly or better than your 10700K.
