I currently own an MSI x470 Gaming Carbon Pro running beta firmware with a Ryzen 5600X. The main hardware specs include an RX6800XT Corsair 850W power supply, a Samsung SSD, and a WD NVMe SATA drive. My concern is whether upgrading the motherboard would be worthwhile, what advantages it might bring, and whether sticking with beta firmware is a smart move since updates are unlikely. If an upgrade makes sense, I’d recommend considering either an X570 or a B-series chipset. A budget of around £200 ($250) could cover the necessary components.
It doesn’t make sense here. If you truly need a solid b550 Boar, the MSI B550 Pro A is probably enough.
The RX6800 XT is a PCIe Gen 4 card, while the X470 supports only PCIe Gen 3. Even though the RX6800 XT offers PCIe Gen 4, it won’t provide a noticeable speed boost. Does your X470 have rBAR/SAM support? Not doing so means you’re missing out on performance gains. If you plan to upgrade, consider a solid B550; the X570 is mainly valuable for multi-GPU configurations or multiple high-speed NVMe SSDs.
It does accept SAM. I'm uncertain about the performance on older chipsets compared to the 570/550 boards—it's activated in other cases.
Not to hijack the post, but same boat here. I expect new chipsets coming our way in the near future, but the gigabyte aorus ultra gaming x470 I have has been a constant PITA and im pretty sure the main bios is toast and its now always having to boot to the backup (i have to double reset to get post).... so right now Im looking at grabbing an MSI Mag Tomahawk x570 to replace it (and upgrade from my 2700x to a 3800x that was given to me for straightening the pins back) Should i limp on this crappy x470 board some more and wait for the next lineup of AMD boards or just get the x570 and not worry about it for a while.
I’ve handled that myself; I keep checking the updates regularly in hopes of resolving some issues, but I went ahead and bought a new MSI x570 Tomahawk and upgraded to the 3800x. Boots and posts every time—I think I’ve been using Gigabyte boards for a while now. Thanks for your assistance, and good luck to the OP!
