You're comparing an i7-8700 with 16GB RAM to a top-tier Mac Mini featuring a 6-core i7 processor. Since you won’t be gaming and plan to add more RAM later, focus on the CPU performance differences. The Mac Mini’s processor will likely offer better speed for basic tasks compared to your current machine, especially if it runs at higher clock speeds. Keep in mind that future RAM upgrades won’t change this comparison.

Around the same time as the base model. The 8700B is merely a BGA version of the 8700. The mini form won’t handle high-speed turbo clocks for extended periods due to heat constraints.

You might want to go all out because you're really passionate about getting it right.

I use it for web development on a MacBook Pro 2018, though it feels a bit sluggish for my tasks. Also, I’m a big fan of the Mac Mini.

He’s reducing his settings. TB3’s extra load lowers the speed of any GPU you use. On my mini it drops to 50% of what it was before, while my 5930K still performs normally.

They focus on other aspects, not GPU speed. Keeping things at a normal level instead of lowering it further.
