I acquired an RTX 5080 at GTC for $1,092 and plan to sell it. If paired with an i5-12600K for gaming at 1440p or 4K, would the 12600K limit its performance compared to a more recent CPU? I'm interested in hearing how the 12600K performs against today's powerful GPUs.

When using 1440p, performance is generally acceptable; however, for 4K, a more advanced processor is recommended.

I believe the statement was reversed. 4k generally uses less CPU power compared to 1440p.

It relies on the kinds of games you play.
Try running some of your games at lower resolution and reduced quality settings.
This can cause the GPU to overwork.
If performance improves, it suggests your CPU is powerful enough to benefit from a better graphics card.
If nothing changes, it’s likely your CPU is the limiting factor.

Give it a shot. You can simply wait a bit before picking up a 14700k and you'll likely end up among the top 10 gaming CPUs again.

I believe the system will handle it well at 1440p, especially in 4k resolution. A 4090 offers better performance than a 5080 by roughly 12 to 13%. The 12600k remains quite similar to a 9800x3d at 1440p, with the gap narrowing down to 4k.
