Hey everyone, I’m trying to decide between the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 laptops. The Ryzen 7 costs $140 more, but I’m unsure if it’s worth it given the price difference between $820 and $960. Benchmarks online are mixed—Notebookcheck says the Ryzen 7 is about 20% faster, while userbenchmarks claims it’s only slightly better. I also checked how both compare to my 2600X, and userbenchmarks suggests the 4700U should match performance. There seems to be a gap between generations, so a low-power CPU might still handle basic tasks well. As for power usage, the extra cores in the Ryzen 7 could mean higher consumption during daily use. If you’re doing light work, the Ryzen 5 might actually last longer on battery.

Variations can be large due to cooling quality, battery capacity, power settings, and more. An R7 might deliver better results with a larger battery if the specific notebook has one. (Userbenchmark’s reputation is also questionable here; its testing methods aren’t always reliable—consider reviewing individual tests rather than just the overall score.)
