I've kept my R5 3600 running at 4.4ghz with 1.33v for a month, but lately I've noticed discussions about possible wear with core voltages dropping to around 1.27v. This has made me reassess my overclocking approach and began testing with lower voltages. I'm stable at a BIOS OC of 4.3ghz at 1.28v. During some R20 tests, everything seemed fine—though I haven't tried prime95 yet. I then opened Ryzen Master and gradually lowered the voltage between runs to see how far I could go, while keeping an eye on the readings with hwmonitor. I achieved 4.3ghz at 1.20v in Ryzen Master after ten consecutive R20 tests, so I thought applying it in BIOS might be easier since resetting it each time is cumbersome. Unfortunately, setting the voltage in BIOS doesn't hold below 1.28v. Why do these results differ so much? Is anyone else facing this issue?
It seems Ryzen Master is keeping the voltage within the BIOS limits. Despite changes in both Ryzen Master and HWMonitor, the BIOS voltage remains consistent. However, CPU-Z always displays the correct BIOS voltage regardless of settings. When I increased the voltage to 0.75V in Ryzen Master at 4.350GHz, both tools reflected that value. Yet CPU-Z showed 0.75V while Cinebench reported 1.288V. Running Cinebench multiple times confirmed similar results—86W draw and temperatures around 60-61°C. This behavior appears normal.
It seems like the issue isn't resolved by the current approach. I initially tried it and then revisited the BIOS to confirm what I believed was correct. I'm not convinced Ryzen Master actually alters the voltage.
It's not the v-core that causes chip failures—it's the high current draw during full load. Focus on amps, not just voltage. Avoid relying on the default HWMonitor tool; it doesn’t provide the comprehensive data you need. Try Hwinfo64 instead for in-depth system monitoring.
