Comparing Ryzen 5 1600AF and Intel Core i5-4690K highlights their differences in performance and features.
The gap between these processors is noticeable, especially when comparing the Ryzen 5 1600AF to the Intel 4690K. There are deals circulating for a 4690K and an 1150 ITX motherboard at lower prices, which might make it worth considering alternatives like the AM4 setup. While your main goal is a strong gaming rig, this could be a good opportunity to balance performance and budget.
Completely out of sync, right? The 4690K is quite an old 4-core chip, and it's even less impressive since it isn't hyper threaded. Even the 6th gen i5 models like the 6400 are lagging behind the 1600 in performance, and that gap will only widen over time. Plus, the 4690K offers very limited upgrade potential—it’s essentially a dead end for future upgrades. The 1600AF, on the other hand, lets you potentially boost your CPU power by several times through an upgraded AM4 processor later, especially if you can find used ones at a lower price.
The 1600af outperforms the i5 in single-core tasks compared to a 6c/12t setup, though this varies with your budget. The 1600af costs around $85 on Amazon and offers future upgrade options. If funds are limited, pairing it with an older rx 570 could work for most non-multi-core games.
I actually bought a 570 for $40, lol I have the budget to handle this setup well but I don’t want super fancy graphics since I mainly play e-sports games. I picked up the SilverStone sg-13. My main rig has a 5700xt and a 2600.
It works well at 60 fps in esports games. Keep in mind it doesn’t offer much room for improvement compared to a Ryzen setup.
