Comparing Intel CPUs versus AMD CPUs, and Nvidia versus AMD in gaming?
Previously, intel was the top choice for high-quality and dependable CPUs, while amd rose to prominence with their Epyc models for servers and other uses. Nowadays, amd is also considered strong in gaming. I have limited experience with amd systems, mostly using laptops a few years ago that had display problems with intel devices. There seem to be some compatibility challenges with amd, but certain games perform better on amd than on intel, especially those that are more demanding on the CPU. The differences between amd's freesync premium and nvidia's g-sync/g-sync premium are notable, though i'm not sure if an intel alternative exists.
Currently, I own an intel i7 13700k, which has worked well so far—though recent updates from marvel rivals have caused some issues like missing direct x12 and unreal engine errors. After restarting my PC, those problems were resolved. I tend to trust intel for reliability and performance, but it appears the situation is more complex now.
So, are there still compatibility concerns? What changes in amd over the past eight years should I be aware of?
Examining my crystal ball... Many people spend $2000 on a video card. Coming from a 35-year Intel enthusiast, I won't touch another Intel CPU until the company has a recovery plan. Right now, I could be willing to pay extra for a CPU that gives me an additional 2FPS. AMD is still uncertain!
