Generally, I've checked the costs for these two CPUs and found that Intel's Core i5 11400F is outperforming the other model by 7% on userbenchmark.com. In some places it's even cheaper, around $500 less (about $70). The main differences lie in performance and price, which explains the significant change in cost.

Despite being a slightly improved chip, the platform and technology are already EOL (14nm refresh number 6 million). The AMD chip you purchase can be upgraded to at least the 5000 series processors. You still have some room for progress, but it might be better to consider a 5600X instead since it would significantly outperform both the 11400F and 3600X by around 20%.

If I received an offer of 11,400F or 3,600, I’d choose 11,400F. Right now, my main system runs at 11,700k. There are two main reasons, though they might not apply to everyone. First, my machine supports Alder Lake with AVX-512. Second, a unified CPU with Zen 2 CPUs offers better performance compared to systems with four cores split across multiple CCX units, which reduces efficiency. Zen 3 increases the CCX limit to eight cores, making it more favorable. Personally, I wouldn’t see a CPU upgrade as a key selling point. After this stage, most upgrades will likely require switching to DDR5 and a full system overhaul. Of course, individual needs vary, but understanding your choice is important.
