They're confusing the numbers, mixing up 1 and 2 sticks. The AM4 Ryzen doesn't support Quad-Channel, but using two sticks gives you the top performance.

Hey there, thanks for the feedback. The virtual machines will be set up for server use. I'm planning to join an online college soon and pursuing a networking degree. From what I've gathered, most classes will begin with Windows Server Edition VMs, and I'm not sure how many will be active at once, so I'm just adding a lot of RAM. The processor is a Ryzen 5 2600, and the motherboard is a B450M DS3H. The host operating system will be Windows 10 Pro.

For that board model, 4x16GB RAM is ideal for servers or virtual machines focusing on stability and capacity. If you're using it for high-performance computing, especially with the Pinnacle Ridge CPU, the recommended option is the one listed at Gigabyte’s download page. This setup supports all four slots with suitable speed kits, which is optimal for your configuration. For gaming setups, having two strong modules can help achieve higher validated speeds or tighter timings. While there are more available kits on QVL, some options from NewEgg remain affordable and still work well. For example, the HyperX 64GB sticks at 3000 speed offer a great balance without breaking the bank. If you're considering more advanced speeds, you might explore QVL listings, but keep in mind that prices can rise quickly. This advice is mainly geared toward VMs rather than pure gaming, where 16GB in two 8GB modules is usually sufficient.
