I believe there might be a need for one to catch up with the other. The 5950x is available, but you should consider whether holding onto it longer adds value or not.

I believe the 5900X offers a better value, with 12 cores being sufficient. Today's average gaming PC typically features around 6 cores.

I wasn’t sure about the feedback but I’m thinking about using the CPU in this setup for several years—likely 5 to 8, depending on how things go.

I’d choose the 5900X since I mentioned having enough cores. A solid reason to pick it is that the 5950X is a high-performance CPU that restricts overclocking and restricts the number of coolers you can install.

You already have a cooler with an x73 and a 5900x, which likely won’t reach 5GHz. A 5950x might offer better performance, but it’s uncertain if it’ll deliver a real boost within the next 5 to 8 years.

I also have to let go of the cable mod connections for the PC and stick with regular power cables for about two months instead of dealing with them right now.

I'm not a prophet, yet it might just be sufficient—it could also fall short. If you're not aiming to boost performance and cooling isn't a concern, the 5950X is a solid choice.

It’s reasonable to assume a quicker CPU might extend its lifespan somewhat. The exact duration and impact remain uncertain, making it hard to predict precisely. I’d consider it only if the cost wasn’t too high.
