I can upgrade my CPU now, but I'm considering moving to 3700x. Is that upgrade worth it? Or should I go for 5600x? The 3700x is around $300 in my country, while the 5600x is about $40-50 more. I’m playing a non-competitive game with an 1660 Super and a 1440p 144Hz monitor. Mostly I use it for gaming and work—writing, Excel, and not much 3D work. I’d like to upgrade the GPU but the cheapest RTX 3060 costs $700, so it’s out of my budget. Other specs: B550i Aorus Pro Ax Scythe big shuriken 3 NR200 with 4 fans, 2 2.5-inch SATA drives, and 1 NVMe drive.
I see your perspective on the B550 motherboard, but it might be wise to hold onto your funds and consider upgrading to a GPU like the 3060 Ti once prices drop in a few months. You could also look for a 5800x or 5900x model at a lower cost within two years, which would still fit your B550. It’s a PCIe Gen 4 motherboard, so it should last if you maintain it properly. Hope this gives you some guidance!
Sure, I made that last year when costs were still reasonable, haha. Appreciate the guidance. Regarding GPU prices, you're definitely seeing a positive outlook, right? Many news sources and tech experts predicted these would stay stable through 2022.
Hopefully costs will drop, though no one really knows for sure. I’m based in Ontario, Canada, and GPUs such as 3080, 3070, and 3060 are now available again at many shops. Prices aren’t the best yet, but the market seems to be improving!.. Looking on a hopeful side, of course.
Currently, I suggest possibly next year, though the decision rests with you.
