My 4690k is limiting my 1080p performance at 1440p. Sure, it's not the issue in every game, but it does affect a few. I previously mentioned this concern online and was leaning toward the 7700k based on benchmarks. Now I see these tests were done at 1080p, which doesn't fully solve my problem. Will the 4790k be sufficient to clear the bottleneck and keep me running smoothly for years? While the 7700k performs better in raw stats, as long as I can bypass that bottleneck and the GPU runs at full capacity with some headroom, I'm okay.

4790k is sufficient, remember to boost it. I’d also look for it on the used market—it could lead to a great offer.

I'm checking eBay and they're listed around £250-280, which works for me. Just plug it in.

Be cautious when purchasing unlocked processors, as the seller might damage them with excessive voltages. Look for a reputable seller with positive reviews or someone who insists on never having modified it. I agree—opt for a 4790K. The performance gap is small, and you'll likely need a different motherboard to upgrade to the 7700K.

The jump from 4790k to 7700k isn't enough to warrant the new motherboard and RAM. If you're aiming for a brand-new CPU, consider waiting a few years—maybe a Coffe/cannon Lake—or go with R7/R5.

Retrieve the 4790k model. It's also suggested to add an additional 8GB of Corsair RAM if you don't think it's necessary.

I upgraded from an i5-4570 to a 4770k recently. Found it on eBay for a good price, modified it to 4.3, and I'm really pleased with the result.

I found a 4790k on eBay a while back that had never been upgraded. It’s a solid upgrade from my 4670k without spending much for a completely new site.
