You're evaluating options to improve your connection setup. Considering your current setup with a 1Gb line and a server running Ubuntu Server 16.04LTS, it makes sense to explore alternatives that balance cost and performance. Buying two 4x1G cards or one 10G card could provide more bandwidth, but since your server's local speeds are around 370MB/s, you might not need the full 3Gbps. An 8-port managed switch with dedicated 1G ports would give you flexibility—keeping the onboard 1G for internet and file sharing elsewhere. This approach can be more practical and budget-friendly if you're unsure about future needs.

Aggregating links isn’t helpful here because it would only route from one source to one destination without balancing traffic. I’d opt for a single 10Gb connection, which gives you the speed boost you need and is easier to configure.
