I’m now on version 8 and have been using it for a while. The metro feature is no longer in my memory (though I did try).
They are likely to do it. If they refuse, you have two choices: Option 1 – install as unsigned drivers (hard) or Option 2 – use compatible mode. If you plan to revert to version 7 later, you’ll need gparted since the installation will fail. A quick note: I’ve experienced this firsthand.
I'm just considering switching from Win7 to Win8.1 mainly because of the performance improvements they claim. It doesn't necessarily mean I enjoy Metro, but after spending some time, I might find it manageable. I usually prefer desktop apps for computers and laptops, not mobile devices. My view has shifted—after a month, if I really dislike it, I'll revert. Windows 9 left me with little choice, so adapting seems necessary. At least I can wear this T-shirt.
