If you haven’t created it yet, you might wait for Windows 10 since you reserved a version. Most games work well on Ubuntu through Steam.

Not all Steam titles are compatible with Linux. While more games support Linux, performance often lags behind Windows or is absent entirely. Linux remains affordable and avoids many gaming-related hassles.

For games needing Linux support, use "linux" to switch. If not, Windows remains a better option for your needs. I’ve usually preferred installing on Linux, though I haven’t reached Ubuntu-based setups yet.

Windows ensures a smooth, nearly hassle-free setup with strong hardware and software backing. Online resources provide reliable help for unexpected issues. For Linux users, choosing the right distribution matters. Ubuntu is often suggested for beginners seeking a Windows-like feel; it’s well-supported and user-friendly. If you prefer a more customized experience, Arch Linux offers deep customization but demands more technical know-how. Other options like XYZ or alternative distros cater to specific needs, though they may require extra effort to configure. It’s crucial to verify that your chosen OS fully supports all hardware and software you intend to use. Missteps can lead to performance problems, power inefficiency, or reduced battery life—especially important for mobile devices. Always test games and applications beforehand. While Linux offers flexibility, popular distros provide ready-to-use packages, though some may be larger or less optimized. Research thoroughly to match your requirements. If budget allows, consider free alternatives like Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 Pro for students or Office 365 subscriptions for educational use. For more details, reach out to your school’s IT department or explore official resources on their website.
