I’m sharing what I’ve been through to give you a sense of the situation. Right now I’m using a Ryzen 1600 with a GTX 1060 (6GB). I do some video editing and encoding on the side to boost my income from my regular job. This setup has been around since the first Ryzen models came out, making my system about two years old. I mainly use Sony Vegas and a bit of Adobe Premiere, working mostly in 1080p. Recently, some clients are asking for 4K content, which is putting more strain on my rig. I’m thinking about upgrading to a Ryzen 3600 during the holiday sales to speed things up. TL;DR: I’m okay with my current setup, but I plan to upgrade this season so I can finish projects faster.
