Planning a fresh setup to jump back into gaming with feedback in mind. I have a GTX1080 and a 750W power supply ready for a budget-friendly start. For cooling, RAM, storage, and case I’m considering the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120SE G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 kit, paired with a TEAMGROUP MP44L 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD from Phanteks XT Pro Mid-Tower. I aim for a build that’s future-proof enough to upgrade the GPU later if better than 1080p graphics are needed. I’m also looking into MicroCenter bundles nearby, and comparing these options to see which offers the best performance-to-cost ratio for games like StarCraft II, Modern Warfare 3, Overwatch 2, and Marvel Rivals. My current rig runs on an AMD Ryzen 7 9700X with a Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX ICE. I’m not strictly limited by budget but want to avoid unnecessary spending if it doesn’t add value. I need flexibility to adjust processor and RAM settings, which both seem possible from what I understand. My initial thought was option 1 would suffice, but I’m worried about the VRM configuration potentially costing an extra $50 compared to a different setup (like Direct 8+2+2 60A vs Twin 12+2+2 60A). Is there any reason the Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2 would be a short-sighted choice just to save $50?

Both motherboards will work similarly and manage high-performance CPUs such as the 9800X3D, 10800X3D or whatever name comes next. White parts tend to cost more, which reflects the price you're paying. Choose the more affordable choice.

Without the Elite's special features, the Gaming version should work perfectly. I own the Elite, but I didn’t find it necessary and am happy with the Gaming option.
