Hi everyone, I'm setting up a new gaming rig for CS:GO, Tarkov, and Cyberpunk, plus some light video and photo work. I'm considering an RTX 2070 Super from EVGA for the GPU. For the CPU, I'm torn between a 3600X and a 3600. The 3600X is $269 at Canada Computers (with a $60 discount), while the 3600 is $239. The difference is $30 more for the 3600X. Would it be worth the extra cost if you don’t plan to overclock much? The unlocked multiplier could help with future upgrades. Let me know your thoughts!

For those not aiming to install an aftermarket cooler, the 3600X offers a slightly improved cooling solution. If you intend to use an aftermarket cooler, simply opt for the 3600 and push it to higher speeds like a 3600X.

Thanks for the response. I was thinking of using the included Wraith cooler, which makes the 3600X a strong choice. I’m happy to upgrade later if things get too hot, and the fan noise isn’t a big deal for me.

For around thirty dollars, you can find a Cooler Master Hyper 212—a solid cooler that significantly improves performance compared to the original or comparable models. There are many choices available, and aftermarket options often look more appealing inside the case than the stock unit.

If you're not pushing performance and ignore sound issues...the pricier model seems acceptable. Since we're only four months away from new releases, I'd wait and pick the latest options. The 212 is already an older model and doesn't justify its cost right now.

I hadn't noticed this before. It seems I should hold off for now. Do you think Ryzen Gen 4 and the latest Nvidia cards will be released together? That's what I expected. If temperatures get too high, I'll go for the NH-D15.

They usually drop new releases in the summer. CPUs come out once a year, GPUs roughly every two years, which means the GPU will be the standout this time. If you're buying an Nvidia RTX card, its performance should be significantly boosted (or even more) compared to older models, making it a smart wait. Even if the goal wasn't performance, you'd be paying a premium for something that could match a 3060 in just a few months. The CPU will still improve slightly, but the gains won't be huge. If you're aiming for maximum value, Black Friday is just around the corner.
