I purchased an i3 9100f with a motherboard intended for budget use, replacing a subpar South American motherboard and an i7 2600. After watching benchmark videos, performance appeared strong initially, but I'm curious about the actual improvement. It seems to handle full-day usage well, though it struggles with many cards. My low-end Gigabyte 1650 supports games like Valhalla, Cyberpunk, Horizon Zero Dawn, CSGO, Forza, and Yuzu. Will it outperform the i7?
It should work better, even if not dramatically. You’ve likely already checked those benchmarks. Since your games are demanding on the CPU, upgrading it seems reasonable. Personally, I’d have chosen a 9400f with six cores, but upgrading is still a solid option.
The performance gap exists, though it isn't significant enough for a major improvement. I strongly suggest opting for an LGA 1200 Intel CPU.
