Hello, I'm planning to design a new machine for a gaming setup combined with local AI training and content creation tasks like YouTube editing or music composition. Since reinforcement learning benefits from extra cores, I was considering the Ryzen 7700 series as a minimum choice. While researching, I found that the 9000 series supports AVX-512 which could boost performance in certain scenarios: https://www.phoronix.com/review/ryzen-9600x-9700x/10. However, for AI workloads, GPUs typically handle most of the processing, making the 9000 series less appealing. I was uncertain about its effectiveness for my needs. As a result, I’m leaning toward the 7950X3D now (price difference is small locally) and plan to upgrade to the 4090 later. Although budget isn’t the main concern, the performance jump from 7950X to 9950X doesn’t seem significant. Given my usage, would you still recommend the 9950X for an extra $150?

I'd estimate the time saved and multiply it by your hourly rate. If the payback comes back in a year, it would be worthwhile. In my country, a 7950x to 9950x represents a 50% price rise; a 4-5% improvement isn't huge, but energy savings could still make a difference.

With this price range I won’t choose 9950x... I’m just wondering when it might help with my tasks. It seems like using it for a server would likely give only small benefits.

I’d wait a month or two for the 9000 series X3D chips. According to rumors, each CCD would include an X3D cache, which could make all 9000 series X3D processors excellent for gaming and productivity. (The 7950X3D performs worse in productivity compared to non-X3D models and lags behind the 7800X3D in games.)

It's really important to get this right quickly; I'm feeling anxious about relying on my laptop for AI coursework. Perhaps I'll switch to a different setup like 7950x or x3d right away...

Is your PC (new is the us) still working, maybe you could just wait for 9000x3d release and just buy PSU and GPU, I don't think you will see much of a use of fast cpu when GPU is what you need?

I've returned to my home country and handed over my PC to a neighbor. I'm expecting a 4060 Ti for now.

Sure, here it is in 7950x size.

When preparing data, tools like numpy offer significant speed improvements. It’s helpful to specify the exact libraries that utilize the CPU. Your priorities aren’t clear yet—especially since you mentioned focusing mainly on LoL. How do you currently launch and control your agents during reinforcement learning training?

Life is busy with many tasks, but managing financial data seems important, so the 9000 series might help. Right now I’m learning RL and mainly use PyTorch. My main focus isn’t on x3D; I’m also exploring music creation, AI experiments, and video editing. The thought behind considering 7950x3D was that the cost gap between it and non-x3D versions is minimal. Honestly, I wouldn’t need x3D unless it wasn’t the main reason for the slight price difference.
