Hello, you're thinking about moving up your CPU while keeping the AM4 socket. Given your budget constraints, staying on that platform makes sense. For gaming at 1080p with the RX 7700XT, both the Ryzen 7 5700X3D and the Ryzen 9 5900X are worth considering. The 5900X is only slightly more expensive in Germany, which might be a factor for you. While the 5700X3D performs better in games, it leans more toward competitive titles. If you mainly play RTS games with many units, the extra cores and threads in the 5900X could offer some advantages. Let me know if you'd like a deeper comparison!

There are clear limits to gains from more cores, and the 5700X3D seems to offer better value, even for real-time strategy titles. It remains an 8-core, 16-threaded processor, with the additional L3 cache providing significant advantages. I recommend choosing the 5700X3D—it’s also simpler to manage the heat.

unless the games mention specific benchmarks, 5700x3D would likely perform significantly better.

I prefer avoiding multi-CCD CPUs for gaming such as the R9 unless you require additional cores. It seems unlikely that any real-time strategy games fully leverage multicore architecture, so I’d favor a significantly stronger 8-core or 16-core processor over a weaker 6+6 or 12-core setup.

You considered upgrading to a higher-end cooler for the 5900x. Appreciate the advice!

Grab the 5700X3D for gaming—it really stands out compared to the 5900X. The 5900X won’t offer much improvement over your current R5 5600.

My 5900X draws heavy on the 5600X. Boost reaches a maximum of 4800 on the latter, while my 5900X operates wide open up to 5150. The stock performance is mediocre, and low-power runs are similarly disappointing. The 5900X performs better in some scenarios, whereas the 5800X3D excels in others. I often switch between the 5900X and the 5800X3D, which can be frustrating. The 5900X is more suitable in certain situations, while the 5800X3D shines in others. I’m currently streaming at 3840x2160 with a 60Hz cap.
