Basis of my comment was that it depends on the game (and scenario), specifically identifying MMOs. Lots of these games will get pegged on CPU, so a faster 3600 is more useful than a 2600 even if most of the time the 2600 can power a GPU. It's important to inform people that although under most circumstances, x CPU can power y GPU, sometimes, the difference in CPU will make a very large difference. And WoW can and certainly does saturate a GPU when you let it. It has one of the largest seamless worlds in gaming. WoW at 1440p out in the world certainly can hammer a high-end GPU to 100% and still be limited by that. The issue is, that's not when low FPS happens, nor when it matters. When it does happen, CPU matters the most, and it will make a difference which CPU you chose. The same can be said of FFXIV, BDO, etc. etc. We've got one guy here who makes the same thread every month or so complaining about his 2600 and RTX 2060. It seems that people get this idea in their head that "this CPU won't bottleneck this GPU, they say" and they cling to these sayings like they are absolutes. So, I think it's meaningful to identify that in many games a 2700x will be fine with x or y gpu and n or p resolution, but there will be times and scenarios where that's not always the case and a faster CPU would have been a benefit. When Ryzen came out, we had troves of people "upgrading" from haswell i5's to Ryzens to play WoW, only to find performance tanked with 1080 ti's. The understanding of CPU/GPU balance isn't always well understood by a lot of people.
