It's surprising how the Ryzen 2600 outperforms my 3400G in Fortnite. The 2600 can hit at least 200 FPS while mine only reaches 150. Both are running at low settings and 1080p. The specs show a powerful build, but performance depends on many factors.
It offers identical single-core speed to the 3400G while adding two extra cores and four additional threads.
The Ryzen 3400G shares the same Zen+ architecture as the Ryzen 2600, featuring six cores at speeds between 3400 and 3900 Mhz. It offers enhanced cache memory—3 MB in L2 and 16 MB in L3—and supports 16 PCIe lanes for video output. Compared to the 2600, it runs four cores at higher frequencies (3700–4200 Mhz), but with reduced cache (2 MB L2, 4 MB L3) and fewer PCIe lanes. The increased frequency isn’t a major advantage for Fortnite, so the performance gain is minimal. The extra cache could provide around 12 MB more in L3 and 1 MB in L2, while using all 16 lanes might only boost performance slightly under 0.5%. The integrated graphics remain unused but still consume some power. Heat management remains a concern, potentially limiting sustained high speeds to around 4200 Mhz. Despite the extra cores (two real and two virtual), the impact on gameplay is likely small.
The mix-up centers on the processor generation they come from. AMD typically launches their newest CPUs alone, such as the Ryzen 5 3600. Around that time, they also release APUs with built-in graphics, but these still use the older architecture. So a Ryzen 5 3400G remains a Zen+ CPU (like the 2000 series) rather than a Zen2 (like the 3000 series). It can be a bit confusing, but you'll need to adapt. I hope you didn’t purchase the incorrect CPU due to this.
