Choose based on your needs—3600X offers better performance for demanding tasks, while 3600mhz at CL16 ensures smooth audio processing. Pick what fits your priority.

There was a B450 explosion concerning its compatibility with Zen3 today. The idea of “going with” is uncertain. I remember that the tomahawk and the mortar are essentially different trim versions of the same product, so one would probably need to check the specifications and compare features before deciding. It seems the mortar and tomahawk weren’t always available together at the same place, suggesting they might be quite similar.

Choose what fits your requirements. Check ports and expansion options to find the best match. I usually pick mATX/microATX (B450M MORTAR MAX) or miniATX for a compact setup. Unless you prefer a larger system with plenty of space, that works fine.

You're using a setup with both a USB 3.1 front panel and two SATA SSDs. Your main concern is whether adding 3600MHz RAM (CL16-16-16) will work smoothly without affecting stability. It's good to know the stock RAM speed is 3600MHz, so you're aiming for that level.

Based on past observations, both options work well. This isn't just the default RAM speed, but the maximum it can be overclocked to.

Thank you in advance! I’ll pick up the tomahawk since it’s currently on sale!

For your setup with a 1 NVMe M.2 drive, 1 HDD, and AIO cooling, the Mortax Max and Tomahawk Max are both solid choices. They offer good compatibility and performance.
