I’m planning a fresh build with a new graphics card, choosing between Intel or AMD. The decision hinges on my CPU choice and the fact that my current motherboard won’t support either option. There’s roughly a $75 price gap, but that won’t hold me back. My usage is split: 35% video editing and creation, 35% office tasks like word processing, browsing, and net surfing, and 30% gaming. Intel seems strong in one area while AMD excels in another, making it hard to pick definitively. Both CPUs look solid, so it’s tough to separate them. I expect the AMD side will come with a cooler, while the Intel side won’t—though I won’t need it. A key consideration is that once I pick a CPU, I’ll likely stick with the same brand for at least my next two upgrades. I’m just going to keep thinking about it and gather more thoughts.
The AMD CPU has no further upgrade options, while the Z490 supports the upcoming 11th generation chip. You can switch to a larger CPU with a 5600X, but you won’t be able to upgrade to the faster Zen 4 on that board. Overall, I don’t focus much on upgrade paths because in two years you’ll likely want to reconsider and get a new motherboard regardless.
