I initially intended to purchase an i5 for a sub-$900 gaming setup, but the i7 is now more affordable. Although it’s an older generation with full cores and threads compared to the i5’s 6/12, I’m confident it could perform better. Please let me know if you need further clarification.
The i5-10400 performs worse in gaming compared to the Ryzen 5 3600 unless paired with a Z490 board and specific DDR4 3200 RAM. The i7 model, however, delivers better speed. 200 dollars for a 9700K would be reasonable, but you should also consider a good cooler and a solid motherboard. That's why AMD tends to be more affordable even when CPUs are pricier.
