Curious if the B450 could cause a bottleneck. My current motherboard is having problems too—first it didn’t work with dual-channel, now only the A2 and B2 RAM slots are functional.

There’s a note about overheating when using a 5950x on a B450 motherboard—temperature spikes from 60°C to 95°C quickly. I don’t recall the sensor details, but it seems important to check those readings carefully.

The VRM on a B450 board usually doesn't deliver power as effectively, which can affect performance on high-end CPUs. I recently upgraded my motherboard from the Gigabyte B450M-DS3H to the X570S Aorus Master. Although it's a more expensive option, especially for the Ryzen 3700X, I plan to upgrade to a top-tier model with the latest AM4 chips and 3D V-Cache support. After installing the new board, I noticed a significant boost in Cinebench R23 scores—over 1300 points—just by changing the motherboard. This improvement happened without any BIOS tweaks or overclocking, just better VRM performance and power delivery. Based on this, upgrading from B450 seems worthwhile, particularly if you're using the Ryzen 5950X. The Gigabyte X570S Aorus Master is also a solid choice if budget allows. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the new setup.

No, the boost comes from VRM, not just enabling DOCP.

This claim isn't accurate. The B550 Aorus Master costs more than the X570-A Pro, and it offers superior specifications and VRM performance. Therefore, the chipset doesn't determine overall quality.

I understand the B450 Pro VDH Max doesn't mesh well with a 5950X, though you might not feel a noticeable gap beyond synthetic tests unless your workload fully uses the CPU. For tasks with light threading, any compatible board works fine. Performance really shines when all cores are engaged, especially in VRM-dependent scenarios. I’m not comfortable with RTM mining yet, but it could get better. For gaming and basic video work, your setup should still be sufficient. I wouldn’t suggest pairing it with that CPU unless you already own it—otherwise, it’s fine to stick with what you have.
